I love going to Auctions. We're pretty good about not making idiot purchases, and we just enjoy the atmosphere and energy that abounds. Watching people battle for things, each with their own strategy, is almost a sport in and of itself.
A large, new Potash mine going in in the vacinity of this amazing acreage had wreaked hell on their lives. Determined not to sell, the mine purchased the road they lived on and the land around them, failing to maintain the roads during the winter, and sending large semi's into their property "accidentally" in the wet and muddy spring, getting them stuck in their driveways and tearing up the yard. Finally, the family yielded after over 100 years of legacy. I was so consumed by the beauty of this property and the history there, I asked if I could take pictures on the condition that I would provide them with copies -- they obliged, and these are the results.
